The international competition "Parallel Canvases" (hereinafter referred to as the Contest), with the theme "City of Personalities: A Space for Growth and Visual Dialogue," is held as part of an annual competition of projects and creative works aimed at engaging young people in scientific research, fostering a positive image of scientists and creators, and drawing attention to issues of intercultural connections and dialogue in the educational and creative environment.
1.1. Contest Organizers > (hereinafter referred to as the Organizer):

Faculty of History, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Faculty of Arts, Lomonosov Moscow State University,
1.1.1. Each year, an organizational committee is formed for conducting the Contest, which includes representatives of the Organizer and universities relevant to the contest.
1.1.2. The organizational committee ensures the operation of the Contest, collection of applications, and technical and informational interaction with participants.
1.2. Expert Jury Council.
1.2.1. To evaluate the contest entries, an expert council (jury) of the contest is formed, which includes:
● academic specialists in art history, art studies, theater, and music;
● soloists, directors, journalists, screenwriters, musicians, actors, conductors;
● well-known public figures in the field of culture.
1.2.2. The expert council ensures the analysis and evaluation of the submitted materials from the moment the application period ends. Members of the expert council gain access to the contest materials through the contest's web interface.
This Regulation is presented for the review of all interested persons wishing to participate in the contest.

2. Goals and Objectives of the Contest
2.1. Main goals of the Contest:
- engaging youth in scientific research,
- shaping a positive image of scientists and creators,
- drawing attention to issues of intercultural connections and dialogues in an educational and creative environment.
2.2. Objectives of the Contest:
1. increasing professionalism through competitive participation,
2. developing project-based activities in the arts,
3. enhancing artistic taste and visual thinking,
4. popularizing interdisciplinary research in the fields of art, science, and philosophy,
5. promoting cultural exchange and dialogue through art,
6. fostering youth initiatives,
7. developing a platform for creative collaboration,
8. conducting research in art studies, art history, music, and theater aimed at exploring practical, philosophical, historiographical, and other issues, as well as interdisciplinary interactions.
3. Contest Participation Conditions
3.1. Students and young people from any country can participate in the Contest, either applying through a university or individually.
3.2. Participants' age is up to 30 years inclusive.
3.3. The administrative fee for Russian citizens is 3,000 rubles, for international participants - $150. The fee for publication (optional) in the collection/catalog is 2,000 rubles. More details can be found in item 8 of this Regulation.
3.4. All materials submitted by participants with their application remain at the disposal of the organizers with the right to non-commercial use.
4. Rights and Responsibilities of Participants and the Organizer
4.1. Participation in the Contest implies full acquaintance with and agreement to these Regulations by the Participants.
4.2. By submitting an application or providing the organizers with photographs, video and audio materials, or any other visual, audio, and textual formats (hereinafter referred to as Materials) for participation in the contest, the Participant:
- confirms that all copyrights to the Materials belong exclusively to him/her and that the use of these materials in the course of the contest does not violate the property and/or non-property rights of third parties;
− agrees to the use of his/her materials under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license:
https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/
which allows free distribution of the materials with attribution to the author and only for non-commercial purposes;
− undertakes to resolve any claims from third parties, in case such claims are made against the Contest Organizers in connection with the publication of his/her materials, independently and under his/her sole responsibility, and to fully compensate all losses to the Organizers and the author(s) in the event of any copyright infringement being identified;
4.3. The Organizer has the right to refuse participation in the contest to materials that do not meet the requirements, without providing additional explanations.
4.4. Participation in the Contest implies the author's consent to the possible future publication of these works on a royalty-free basis. At the same time, the authors retain their copyright.
4.5. Materials submitted to the Contest are not allowed to participate in the following cases:
• they violate copyright;
• they violate the laws of the Russian Federation or international law;
• low artistic or technical quality of materials;
• they do not meet the requirements of the Contest Regulations, including being submitted after the specified deadline.
5. Copyright and Use of Materials
5.1. All materials (images, videos, texts, etc.) submitted to the contest remain the property of their authors.
5.2. By submitting an entry, the author automatically grants the Organizer the right to use their materials for non-commercial purposes within the framework of the informational and cultural support of the contest, with mandatory attribution.
5.3. Materials may be used for:
- publication on the contest's websites and social media;
- creation of electronic catalogs and printed publications;
- exhibition display (offline/online);
- inclusion in materials for scientific and educational events related to the contest.
5.4. Use is carried out under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/
This means:
- free distribution of materials with attribution to the author,
- only for non-commercial purposes,
- no right for commercial distribution or adaptation without separate consent from the author.
6. Contest Procedure
6.1. The contest runs from October 27, 2025 to March 3, 2026 in several stages:

7. Application Procedure
7.1. To participate, you must:
7.1.1. fill out the registration form and attach all project materials to it (see requirements for materials). Materials that exceed the form limits must be sent to the organizer's email artmatrix512@outlook.com at the same time as submitting the form. For example, video files;
7.1.2. a signed Consent for Data Processing (attached to the Regulations file);
7.1.3. pay the organizational fee within 2 days from the date of submission of the application, in the amount of 3000 rubles for Russian citizens and residents, and 150 USD (equivalent in rubles at the Central Bank of Russia exchange rate at the time of payment) for international participants, non-residents. And send documents confirming the payment of the organizational fee to the organizer's email artmatrix512@outlook.com: receipt, screenshot of the entire bank transfer page, or other payment documents.
In the payment purpose, a note should be made according to the type of participation:
- contest: "for the organizational fee",
- catalog (or collection): "for publication in the catalog (or collection)",
- conference: "for the certificate" or "for video materials", which are not mandatory documents provided to conference participants.
7.2. Additionally, the participant may, if desired, send:

7.3. Submitting an application signifies full agreement with these Regulations and permission to use the submitted materials (see clause 6) for the purpose of publicly presenting the works of authors/author groups within the framework of the contest.
7.4. Materials and applications that violate the laws of the Russian Federation, international law, copyright, do not meet the requirements of the Contest Regulations, including those submitted after the prescribed deadline, or do not correspond to the theme of the contest, will not be allowed to participate.
8. Requirements for materials
8.1. Nomination: Research Project
An analytical or conceptual work revealing the theme "City of Personalities" through:
cultural critique
philosophical or urban analysis
educational methodology
case study or comparative research
Format: PDF document (up to 80 pages), with visual attachments optional
8.2. Media Category
Visual formats that explore the theme through live action, staging, or docufiction.
Subcategories:
Performance (in the classic sense: body, space, gesture)
Short video — staged (theater, music as a character)
Short video — documentary as fiction (the city as a hero, personality as a myth)
AR/VR installation
Format: Video up to 15 minutes, with a brief description of the idea (up to 300 words)
8.3. Art Category
Visual works suitable for the theme "City of Personalities" — as a space of growth, portraits, traces.
Subcategories:
Street art (photography + video of the creation process)
Photography (urban or portrait)
Portrait (classical art: painting, drawing)
Format:
Photo (up to 5 images)
Video (up to 2 minutes — for graffiti/street art)
Description of the work (up to 300 words)
8.4. Photos for the Podari Obraz and Parallel Canvases catalogs must be labeled as follows (in order):
1. Parallel Canvases 2025
2. Surname, first name, patronymic of the author (or author team)
3. Title of the project or work
9.Prizes and incentives
9.1. Selection of finalists for the Contest and determination of winners is carried out by a specially invited professional jury based on the following criteria (if consistent with the theme of the year):
- technical skill,
- conceptuality,
- artistic depth,
- visual expressiveness,
- language accessibility, clarity of presentation,
- cultural coherence,
- potential for integration into the platform
9.2. The Contest Jury determines the criteria for evaluating applications and materials submitted by participants for the Contest, conducts an examination of the applications; presents recommendations for the candidates of the finalists to the organizing committee in the form of a protocol.
9.3. The Audience Award, if possible, is determined by open voting on the Organizer's platforms.
9.4. Based on the presentation (recommendations) of the contest commission, the organizing committee summarizes the results of the Contest, determines the finalists and winners; the decisions of the organizing committee are final and not subject to revision. The decision is made by secret ballot by a simple majority and is recorded in a protocol signed by the elected chairperson and the members of the Contest Jury present at the meeting.
9.5. In their activities, the Organizing Committee and the Contest jury are guided by the principles of professionalism, legality, transparency, objectivity, and humanism.
9.6. One winner is determined in each category.
The Organizing Committee has the right to establish additional categories in the Contest. It is also permissible for partners of the contest to establish categories and award prizes.
9.6.1. Contest winners are awarded diplomas and commemorative gifts. They also receive:
– Publication of the best works in the international digital catalog of the Parallel Canvases project
– The opportunity to participate in an online or offline residency with experts from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China, Indonesia, Brazil, Serbia, and other countries
– Inclusion of individual works in the online exhibition "City of Personalities"
– Interviews with the authors published on the Medium platform and in partner university media
9.7. These forms of recognition under clause 9.6.1. are aimed at developing academic and creative partnerships among participants, as well as expanding international educational connections and enhancing the prestige of Russian projects in the global scientific and artistic community.
9.8. The final will take place in person in Moscow (if not possible, an online presentation is allowed).
The exact location of the award ceremony for the Contest winners will be announced additionally through official channels, groups, and project platforms.
10. Organizational Fee and Publication Payment
10.1. For participation in the contest, the following are established:
10.1.1 Organizational fee:
— 3,000 rubles for participants from the Russian Federation, residents,
— $150 (to be paid in rubles according to the Central Bank of Russia exchange rate at the time of payment) for international participants, non-residents,
10.1.2. Publication in the collection/catalog (at the request of participants not among the contest winners) of materials, theses for the contest or conference (volume - 2 pages):
— 2,000 rubles.
10.1.2.1. Collections and catalogs are formed thematically and depending on the partner program as components are gathered.
10.2. Payment is made simultaneously with the submission of the application and no later than 2 days from the moment the application is sent to the organizer. According to the details specified in section 12.
10.2.1. The participant must send a scanned copy of the passport and the document confirming payment to the organizer's email address.
10.2.2. The email subject must indicate "Organizational Fee Payment" and include the full name of the registered participant.
10.3. Proof of payment is a scanned receipt, a copy of the payment order, or a full screenshot of the online banking page showing the transfer, sent to the organizer's email artmatrix512@outlook.com.
10.4. In case of withdrawal from participation after payment, no refund is provided, except in the event of the cancellation of the event at the Organizer's initiative.
10.5. All participants receive an electronic certificate, and winners receive diplomas. Publications and collections are sent electronically or by mail (if there is offline participation), or can be collected in person if a printed edition is available at the Organizer's locations, which will be announced in advance on the Contest's resources and/or social media.
10.6. The organizational fee may cover expenses for:
1. Designing, printing, and mailing diplomas, certificates, and letters of appreciation,
2. Organizing the online platform and technical support,
3. Renting premises, equipment, and setting up an exhibition,
4. Providing human resources for the project,
5. Publishing a collection of papers or abstracts, publishing catalogs,
6. Providing prizes, souvenirs, and gifts,
7. Advertising and informational materials,
8. Organizing and conducting the award ceremony, and others.
11. Conditions for participation in the contest conferences
11.1. Participants of the conferences can be: students and young people up to 30 years old, or mentors of any age, regardless of citizenship.
11.2. Individual and group participation is allowed.
11.3. Applications are accepted in the same form via the "Submit Application" button. You need to choose one of the statuses: "conference participant" or "listener."
11.4. Materials are submitted by participants to the conference according to the same rules and in the same form/email as for contest participants.
11.5. Anyone can be a conference listener regardless of citizenship or age.
11.6. All materials provided by conference participants, along with the submission of documents to the organizer, remain at the organizer's disposal with the right to non-commercial use according to paragraph 6.
11.7. A participant certificate is not a mandatory conference document. All conference participants receive personalized certified digital "participant certificates" within a week after the conference ends, only after confirmation of a payment of 2000 rubles.
11.8. Payment is made in advance. No later than 2 days before the start of the conference. The same rules for submission and reporting apply as in clause 10.2.
11.9. Along with the certificate, the participant is sent all materials for the conference that are declared (see thematic announcements here - on this page in the forum /at the bottom/ https://confhub.ru/rus/backend/event/9991/ - for each conference). For example: the commemorative Conference Program, individual lectures, chat access, and more.
11.10. Video materials from the conference are not mandatory conference documents.
11.10.1. Video materials - except for those published by the organizer as post-production of the event - can be purchased by any conference participant or attendee. Requests should be sent to the organizer at artmatrix512@outlook.com.
11.10.2. The cost of the package with video materials is determined by agreement on the video files included. These may include professional materials: live broadcast, footage from other angles, reportage filming, or a finished video clip.
